Known Used Between May 1902 and 1906

Typewriter advertising cover dated May 24, 1902 to May Pen franked with a 1d Llandovery Falls adhesive and tied by a Port Antonio railway strike and with a second strike below. Carried first to Spanish Town where it changed trains to one on the Montego Bay line. The railway cds of Spanish Town was applied on the reverse (move cursor over image to view) when the letter was passed to the travelling postman for onward transmission to May Pen. May Pen railway datestamp was applied on arrival. Thus four railway cancels from three different stations, all with the same date. The earliest known date for both the Port Antonio and May Pen railway datestamps.

Picture postcard dated June 21, 1907 to New Jersey franked with 2½d grey and ultramarine Jamaica Arms adhesive and tied by a Port Antonio railway datestamp. Kingston double ring cds of same date alongside. Postcard shows a panoramic view of Port Antonio (move cursor over image to view).

Cover dated May 7, 1908 From Boston to Port Antonio addressed to Miss Martha A Baker in care of her father, Captain Lorenzo Dow Baker. Forwarded to the Rio Cobre Hotel in Spanish Town via the Jamaica Railway on May 16, hence the Port Antonio railway datestamp. Large Spanish Town squared circle datestamp of same date on reverse (move cursor over cover to view). Capt. L D Baker started the Jamaica banana trade in the 1880s and promoted Port Antonio as a vacation destination for wealthy Americans. He established the Boston Fruit Company which later became the United Fruit Company. Contents are a letter written on Parker House, Boston hotel stationery by Martha Baker's brother L D Baker Jr., announcing the birth of his daughter, Martha Hopkins Baker, on May 3rd, 1908. Also enclosed are two birthday commencement cards, one addressed to L D Baker Sr. and one to Martha.
